For over three decades, Laird Hamilton has been pushing the limits of big wave surfing, becoming arguably the greatest to ever take on some of the ocean’s most colossal surges and defying what many thought was impossible. Riding some of the most powerful waves ever and helping to invent tow-in surfing in the mid-1990s, Hamilton will forever be tied to the sport. Today, he partners with British luxury watch brand Bremont for a new diver that also pushes the limit.
Ocean-tested by Hamilton himself, the Waterman Apex is a limited-edition dive watch and part of Bremont’s Supermarine range. The 43mm Trip-Tick stainless steel case features a crown at the 2 o’clock position and a display caseback. However, this timepiece still boasts 500m of water resistance, aided by an automatic helium escape valve and crown protector for the screw-down crown. The watch is also equipped with Bremont’s patented anti-shock vibration mount technology to withstand even the toughest curls.
Just like the previous Waterman watch that was unveiled back in 2018, the Apex has GMT functionality and a 42-hour power reserve. This time around, the GMT hand sports a shark fin at the tip, and the dial and sapphire bezel insert — both in black — are accented with powder blue to match the rubber strap option, with a stainless steel bracelet also available as an option. The dial is also given a subtle wave design in the center, reiterating that this is a watch built for the deep.
A portion of the watch’s proceeds will go toward the non-profit organization Bimini Shark Lab and its oceanic research. The Waterman Apex is now available on Bremont’s website for $5,095 on the rubber strap and $5,595 for the stainless steel bracelet version.
